While you can manually drain the water from your system to help prevent freezing, some water can still remain and damage pipes. If all the water is not removed, you could have significant damage waiting for you in the spring. To protect your sprinklers from freeze damage, we recommend a sprinkler winterization (also known as a “blowout”).
As you winterize your homes, please keep the following in mind:
- Shut off your outdoor water using the physical shutoff lever.
- Leave the outdoor water shutoff in STEWARD set to open
The water shutoff valve activated in the STEWARD system is meant to be a temporary shutoff to prevent flooding. It is not meant to stop water flow for months at a time.
Please watch a short video on the Rachio support website for great sprinkler winterization practices.
