[ARCHIVED] Winter Storm Warning: 3/12/2021

Sterling Ranch Winter Aerial 2020-12

You have heard on the news, the current weather forecast is projecting the chance for heavy snow (1-2 ft) and blizzard conditions to start Friday and continue through the weekend in our area. Snowfall will be heaviest Saturday night through Sunday.

Snow Removal:

The CAB is responsible for pushing snow out of shared driveways, alleys, motor courts, and parking lots. Please make sure you DO NOT park vehicles in these areas. Snow removal on sidewalks and hard trails will occur as a second priority. Our snow removal contractors, who will be clearing snow throughout the community, ask for all to please be patient with their teams. Though they pride themselves on having a large collection of resources—those resources are not infinite. Please keep in mind when the storm is at its height, their mobility will be hindered, and the crews ask for patience as they work throughout the duration of this weekend-long storm.

• Areas will likely be serviced multiple times over the duration of this long-lasting storm. It is much more efficient to move smaller amounts of snow multiple times than it is to move a large amount of snow one time. This is especially true when it comes to wet, heavy snow like that which is being predicted.

• The primary goal will be to first ensure drive lanes are opened up for safe travel. This means areas likely won’t be completely cleared at one time, and workers may even leave to ensure other sites are opened and equally “passable” before returning.

• If Sterling Ranch receives the upper amounts of accumulation, snow piles will be placed in locations that aren’t typical. It is very possible that normal snow pile locations will fill up and alternate locations will be needed. Workers are prepared to mobilize larger equipment to move those snow piles as the storm subsides, and will ALWAYS work to keep snow piles in locations that don’t compromise anyone’s safety, but there may be situations in which some may have to temporarily adjust normal routines. Please refer to the Sterling Ranch Snow Plan and Map (www.sterlingranchcab.com/DocumentCenter/View/483/Snow-Removal-Map-2021-PDF) for details.

• Please remember that homeowners are responsible for clearing the snow on the sidewalks adjacent to their property 24 hours after the snow stops falling. If you need assistance with your snow removal, please contact the CAB at info@sterlingranchcab.com or 720-661-9694, and we will send a volunteer “Ice Angel" to assist you!

• Douglas County will be working hard to clear major streets during the storm. For more information on their priority routes, please go to visit the County website. If you have concerns with street snow removal, please contact Douglas County directly.

Facility Closures:

Staff will be monitoring the weather and snow depth all weekend. Our priority is to keep the Overlook Clubhouse and the Sterling Center facilities open. If it looks like the weather forecast projects conditions that would create hazardous conditions for both community members and staff, then we will be limiting facility hours or closing facilities. Atlas and Grist have been contacted and each are currently scheduled to be open. They reserve the right to make decisions whether to stay open based upon weather conditions evolving throughout the weekend. Please keep informed by going to the Living in Sterling Ranch Facebook page and the website. We encourage residents to check for closures and to walk to the facilities.

Facility Hours will be as follows:

Sterling Center & Information Center:

  • Saturday, March 13th: Open, 10:00am -4:00pm (closing early)
    • Atlas and Grist will be tentatively open their normal hours.
    • Food trucks are scheduled but reserve the right to cancel based on weather conditions.
  • Sunday, March 14th: Open, 12:00pm – 4:00pm (limited hours)
    • Atlas will be open normal hours.
    • Grist will be tentatively open based on the weather conditions.
    • Food trucks are scheduled but reserve the right to cancel based on weather conditions

Overlook Clubhouse:

• Saturday, March 13th: Open, 9:00am- 4:00pm (closing early)

• Sunday, March 14th: Open, 12:00pm – 5:00pm (limited hours)

• Monday, March 15th: Open, 10:00am – 9:00pm (delayed start)

Home tips for these types of storms:

• Clear vents – with storms that accumulate deep snow levels, you should pay attention and clear snow from any exterior vents around your home.

• Backflow devices should be wrapped to prevent freezing.

• Trees – during heavy spring snows, shake tree branches so snow accumulation does not damage the trees.

• Keep snow shovels handy and ready for use. Spray shovels with cooking spray prior to shoveling so snow slides off easier.

• Protect your back – shovel more often during these types of snows or only shovel a few inches at a time. Take breaks frequently.

• Be ready with water, food, and gas in your vehicles.

Power Outages:

If you lose power during the storm, please contact Xcel Energy at 1-800-895-1999 to report the outage or follow along with their power outage updates.

Medical Services:

• The UCHealth Sterling Ranch Medical Center is currently monitoring the storm. Any storm closures can be found on their website at UCHealth.org.

• If you need immediate medical assistance, please call Dispatch Health, a mobile emergency room, at 720-381-3331 or call 911 for a medical emergency.

Trash Service:

There is a good chance that Trash Service on Monday will be delayed or canceled. We will keep you informed on the latest Trash Service status from Waste Connection as it is received.
